Information

The Tephrocactus Aoracanthus is a truly unique cactus species with a badass appearance. In nature, the Tephrocactus Aoracanthus grows in an unexplored area in Argentina. Here this Tephrocactus grows along mountain slopes up to a height of 2200 meters.

The Tephrocactus Aoracanthus has a large bunch of spines. These grow in all directions and thus protect the plant body. The spines bend when you touch them. But they can also sting you. The spines of the Tephrocactus Aoracanthus are light brown to dark brown in color and can grow up to 15 meters long.

The Tephrocactus Aoracanthus is green in color. A new one grows from the head of an existing leaf. For example, the Tephrocactus Aoracanthus can grow into shrubs of up to 1 meter high. However, this takes many years because these plants initially only grow 1-3 new leaves per year.

Getting the Tephrocactus Aoracanthus to bloom is very difficult. For this they need a cold and dry wintering. It can help to give them ice-cold water in early spring when the weather is nice to bring them out of dormancy. If you have older plants of the Tephrocactus Aoracanthus, flowering will be a lot easier. Then they often bloom automatically in the spring when they are happy with you.

When the Tephrocactus Aoracanthus starts to bloom, this cactus will reward you with very large flowers. They can grow up to 10 cm in diameter and are creamy white to light pink-white in color. They also produce a wonderful slightly sweet scent.

The Tephrocactus Aoracanthus can withstand very cold temperatures. -10 degrees is no problem for the Tephrocactus Aoracanthus. However, the Tephrocactus Aoracanthus must be completely dry in well-drained soil. This Tephrocactus Aoracanthus finds a lot of moisture in winter less tasty during a cold hibernation
