Information

The Selenicereus Anthonianus is a beautiful cactus species that occurs naturally in Mexico. Here the Selenicereus Anthonianus grows on trees in subtropical areas. The Selenicereus Anthonianus has a unique shape in its leaves. This looks a bit like a saw or a herringbone. This is why the Selenicereus Anthonianus is also called the Fishbone cactus. The leaves of the Selenicereus Anthonianus can grow up to 60 cm long and hang down. This makes the Selenicereus Anthonianus also well suited for a hanging pot or a higher pot.

The Selenicereus Anthonianus is actually very similar in appearance to the Epiphyllum Anguliger saw cactus. This also has the same leaf shape. The big difference with these plants is mainly in the flowers. The Selenicereus Anthonianus produces beautiful large pink cream colored flowers while the Epiphyllum Anguliger produces white cream colored flowers. In addition, the Epiphyllum Anguliger is an easier plant to obtain because it is widely grown in Europe. The Selenicereus Anthonianus is often grown on the American continent and is therefore difficult to obtain in Europe.

When the Selenicereus Anthonianus is happy, she will bloom with us in the summer. That is a real beauty. Her beautiful pink/cream colored flowers appear from the sides of the leaves, which can grow up to 15 cm in size. The flowers usually bloom for only one night and spread a slightly sweet scent. The flowers open in the evening when it starts to get dark and close again when the sun rises.

This cactus is very fragile, but because it is popular and has a beautiful appearance, we still want to offer it. We pack these cacti as best as possible. However, it may happen that some stems break off during transport. You can pot these again after +- 2 weeks of drying. These will then continue to grow again from spring onwards.
