The Cumulopuntia pentlandii var. rossianus is a special cactus species that you don't often encounter. In nature, this cactus occurs in southern Bolivia and northern Argentina. The Cumulopuntia pentlandii var. grows here. rossianus in mountainous areas and dry plains. Very little water falls in these areas. In addition to a single rain shower per year, the Cumulopuntia pentlandii var. rossianus also moisture from vapor that precipitates on the cactus. In addition, this cactus also produces a large taproot in which the plant can store a lot of water. This cactus has enough reserves for a long dry period.

The Cumulopuntia pentlandii var. rossianus produces all oval dark green bulbs. These grow from the bulb below and are covered with very sharp 2-4 cm long spines. The color of these spines is very variable from white, yellow to reddish brown.
