The Ferocactus hamatacanthus var. flavispinus is a beautiful cactus species that occurs naturally in a large area in southern Texas and northern Mexico. Here this cactus grows in dry desert and mountainous areas.

The Ferocactus hamatacanthus var. flavispinus has a dark green color and has long spines. The central thorn can grow up to 15 cm long. The end of this spine is curved and the shape resembles a fishhook. The color of the spines is yellow. The amount of sunlight affects the color of the spines. When this cactus gets a lot of sunlight, the yellow color of its spines becomes more intense.

The Ferocactus hamatacanthus var. flavispinus is an average grower. First this cactus grows in a spherical shape. Later the shape changed to a column shape. Ultimately it will be 60 cm high and 25-30 cm wide.

The Ferocactus hamatacanthus is an easy bloomer when it is happy with you. The flowering time of this cactus is at the end of summer. The flowers appear from the heads of the plants. They can grow up to 8 cm and have an intense yellow color.
