The Senecio stapiiformis is a beautiful succulent plant that occurs naturally in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. Here this plant grows in dry rocky areas.

The Senecio stapiiformis produces long thin stems that often grow straight up. Its stems have a dark green color with light gray-green patterns on them. For example, when this Senecio gets a lot of sun in the summer, a purple glow becomes visible on the trunks. The Senecio stapiiformis propagates by making side branches from its existing trunks, but also by underground offshoots.

The Senecio stapiiformis is an easy bloomer and often does this for us in spring and autumn. A small flower stem grows from the top of a stem with many small bright red flowers on it.
