Information

Echinopsis Peruviana is a fast-growing columnar cactus. This beautiful column cactus used to be placed in the genus Trichocereus. Young plants of Echinopsis Peruviana are dark green in color. When they grow a little larger, they turn gray-blue. Fortunately, you don't have to wait many years for this, because this is a fast-growing cactus. In a good year when it is nice and warm and sunny in the Netherlands, this cactus can grow up to 30 cm. The spines of this cactus are yellow-brown in color and eventually grow to a length of 2-10 cm.

In nature, the Echinopsis Peruviana occurs on the western slopes of the Andes Mountains in Peru. Because this cactus grows in this area, it is resistant to cold, moisture and long periods of drought. Just like the Echinops Pachanoi, this cactus contains mescaline and other alkaloids. This is why it is used by the indigenous population in rituals. In summer this cactus produces large white flowers. First, a fluffy plume appears between the spines of the cactus, which later grows into a flower with a diameter of up to 15 cm and a length of up to 20 cm. The flowers open quickly, often in the evening and at night and only bloom for a short time. Maximum one day. It is good to smell when the Echinopsis Peruviana starts to bloom. Then this cactus spreads a wonderfully intense sweet scent. These plants can already flower at a height of 30-40 cm. Place the Echinopsis Peruviana in a sunny and warm place to make it easy to get the cactus to bloom.
