Information

We now also have the cristate form for you in addition to the regular Pachypodium Lamerei. The cristate growth is a rare deviation that ensures that this Pachypodium does not grow in a trunk, but in a comb shape. You do not often come across this Pachypodium. The plant with cristate growth is grafted onto a regular Pachypodium Lamerei plant.

General information Pachypodium Lamerei

The Pachypodium Lamerei occurs naturally in the south of Madagascar. Here it can grow into large trees of no less than 6 meters high. This succulent has therefore been given the nickname Madagascar palm. In the Netherlands, the conditions are different than in Madagascar and this Pachypodium will take decades to reach this height.

When the Pachypodium Lamerei grows larger, the thorny stem of the plant also becomes thicker. The Pachypodium stores its water in the stem. Pachypodium means thick foot in Latin. Green leaves grow from the head of the plant. These remain on the plant for several months before they shrivel and fall off. Do not be alarmed if the lower leaves suddenly shrivel. This is normal and often this Pachypodium has already formed enough new fresh leaves that it is not even noticeable that it is missing a few.

Somewhat older plants that are between 80 and 100 cm tall can start to flower. These Pachypodiums do this in the Netherlands when there is a longer warm period in the summer and the plant is growing well. The flowers of the Pachypodium Lamerei are yellow in color and appear at the head of the plant between the leaves.
