The Astrophytum Capricorne is a beautiful cactus species that occurs naturally in the north of Mexico in the Chihuahuan desert. Here the Astrophytum Capricorne grows in sandy and rocky soil. Like many other Astrophytum species, the body of the Astrophytum Capricorne is covered with all kinds of small white dots. The plant body itself is dark green in color. The spines of the Astrophytum Capricorne are different from many other cactus species. They are sharp but soft and bend easily when you press against them. The color of the spines of the Astrophytum Capricorne varies from light yellow to dark brown. When the plants are young they do not yet have large spines. These only occur when the plants are about 3 cm tall. The spines of the Astrophytum Capricorne grow twisted and in all directions. This makes them look a bit like a horn.

The Astrophytum Capricorne looks like a ball cactus at first glance, but grows taller as it ages. This happens when the plants are about 10 cm wide. Ultimately, the Astrophytum Capricorne can grow into a large column cactus of up to 1.5 meters. This takes a long time, because the Astrophytum Capricorne is not a really fast grower.

If the Astrophytum Capricorne is happy with you, it will bloom regularly in the summer. The 8 cm large flowers emerge from the head of the plants. They usually bloom for 2 to 3 days and are bright yellow in color with a red heart. They produce a slightly sweet scent.
