The Aztekium ritteri is a special cactus. You don't often come across this species. This is because cultivation is difficult and the plants grow slowly.

In nature, the Aztekium ritteri grows in the Mexican province of Nuevo León. Here, this cactus grows on hillsides in dry areas.

The Aztekium ritteri has a grey-green colour and forms a small ball. Many side lines are visible on its ribs. At the top of the crown of the cactus is often wool. From this come its small pink-white flowers. The Aztekium ritteri has almost no spines. Sometimes a few at the top of the head with the new growth. Plants on their own roots rarely form side shoots. When they are grafted they form side shoots more often. These grow from the sides of its ribs.

The plants we have are grafted onto a myrtillocactus rootstock.
