Information

The Echinocactus texensis is a beautiful cactus species that occurs naturally in the American state of Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma. Here this cactus grows in dry sandy areas and grasslands.

The Echinocactus texensis has a beautiful green to green-gray color. This cactus has sturdy spines that have a light brown color. New spines on top of the cactus first have a red color and then turn into a light brown color. The Echinocactus texensis is a slow-growing cactus species that eventually grows to a height of 20 cm and a diameter of 30 cm.

The Echinocactus texensis is an easy bloomer. This cactus usually blooms in spring and early summer. The flowers have a light pink to dark pink color. This cactus usually only blooms when it is 10 cm in diameter. When the flowers are pollinated, small dark red fruits grow from them.

When this cactus overwinters in completely dry soil, the Echinocactus texensis can tolerate temperatures down to -18 °C.
