Information

The Gymnocalycium baldianum is one of the most rewarding Gymnocalyciums you can have. This species is native to Argentina, where it grows at altitudes between 500 and 2000 meters, often among grasses and on rocky mountainsides. It is a compact species that usually remains unbranched and has a flat to spherical shape. The cactus's color ranges from gray-green to blue-green and can sometimes even be almost blue-black.

When the Gymnocalycium baldianum thrives, it will flower at a young age. Even small plants, less than 3 cm wide, can produce a profusion of flowers in early summer. The flowers appear at the top of the plant and are 3 to 4 cm across. They open fully in the sun and are often a deep purple-red color, but can also be pink, white, or orange. It's a spectacular sight, especially because this cactus starts flowering so easily and early.

The Gymnocalycium baldianum is a strong and fast grower that requires no special care. Give it a sunny location and a well-drained substrate, and it will last for years. Its beautiful blooms and compact growth habit make it an ideal cactus for both novice and experienced collectors.
