The Gymnocalycium ochoterenae subs. vatteri is a beautiful robust cactus that occurs naturally in Argentina. Here this cactus grows in dry and rocky areas.

The Gymnocalycium ochoterenae subs. vatteri has a dark green color with light brown thick spines that protect the cactus. This cactus is a slow growing species. Ultimately, this cactus grows to a diameter of 10 cm. It is often a cooperatively growing plant. A single cactus of this species will produce a single side shoot when it is older.

The Gymnocalycium ochoterenae subs. vatteri is an easy flowering cactus. This cactus usually does this for us at the end of spring and in summer. Several white flowers with a red heart often appear from the head of the cactus.

When this cactus overwinters in completely dry soil, the Gymnocalycium ochoterenae subs. vatteri can tolerate temperatures down to -5 °C.
