Information

The Kalanchoe prolifera is a striking succulent native to Madagascar. However, this plant is also cultivated and sometimes grows as a wild plant in tropical areas of the Amazon, Africa, Asia, Australia, and elsewhere in the tropics.

The Kalanchoe prolifera is a gigantic, fast-growing succulent with an unusual appearance. The plant forms what looks like a green, grooved stem on which thick, rubbery, herringbone-like leaves with purple edges grow. The leaves are fleshy and rigidly arranged on top of the stem. In bright sunlight, the leaves take on pink to red hues. This striking growth habit makes it a true eye-catcher. Additionally, this succulent can be easily pruned and is suitable for bonsai. The succulent grows upright and can reach 3 to 4 meters in height, but usually topples over before reaching that height and then continues to grow horizontally. This gives the plant a unique, slender appearance.

The Kalanchoe prolifera blooms with pendulous yellow-green bell-shaped flowers with pinkish-pink tips. The flowers appear on a flower stalk that grows from the succulent between the uppermost leaves.
