Information

The Mammillaria formosa is a beautiful cactus species that occurs in nature in a widespread area in Mexico. Here it grows in dry plains and forest areas between rocks. Often under the shelter of other low plants that protect it from the intense sun during the hottest part of the day.

The Mammillaria formosa has a beautiful dark green color with many small protruding tubercles. On top of these tubercles grow its small but sturdy dark brown spines. On top of the cactus often forms a crown of wool. This wool grows between the tubercles and has the function in nature to protect the cactus extra from the sun. Between this wool often grows many flowers in the spring and summer. The flower color is often variable from white, yellow-white to light pink.

If the Mammillaria formosa overwinters completely dry, it can withstand short periods of -4 degrees of frost.
