Information

The Mestoklema Tuberosa is a beautiful caudex plant that grows in a bushy form. In nature, the Mestoklema Tuberosa occurs beyond the Northern Cape in South Africa between the Wittewater and Rietfontein areas. When the Mestoklema Tuberosa ages, the caudex turns dark brown to black. As a result, the Mestoklema Tuberosa has been nicknamed Donkiebossie by the locals.

In nature, the Mestoklema Tuberosa grows into a small shrub of 60 to 70 cm high. Elongated fleshy green leaves grow from the branches of this caudex. Small white flowers appear between these leaves in the fall. The white flowers are about 1 cm in diameter.

When the flowers are pollinated they turn into green seed berries. When the seeds are ripe, the seed berries turn brown. To remove the seeds, it is best to spray the seed berries with water. Then they will open automatically. In nature this happens through a rain shower. This way the plant knows for sure that there is moisture for the seeds to germinate.

You don't see these African bushes very often. They are also suitable as bonsai. Occasional pruning of the shoots also helps to shape the caudex of the Mestoklema Tuberosa.
