Information
The Plectranthus Ernstii is a tropical caudex that occurs naturally in South Africa. This caudex has woody tuberous stems on which beautiful velvety leaves grow.
If you prune the plant regularly, this promotes the formation of the caudex root. This is why the Plectranthus Ernstii is often used as a bonsai. This caudex is extremely suitable for this. Due to the shape of the stems, Plectranthus Ernstii has been nicknamed wreathworsies by the locals.
The leaves of Plectranthus Ernstii have a strong minty scent. When you rub the leaves while lying down, this mint aroma is released. Both the stems and leaves are eaten by the locals. The leaves are used to season dishes. Few local recipes are known for the stems. These seem to be full of fiber and carbohydrates.
The Plectranthus Ernstii blooms in spring and summer. It is a plant that blooms easily. When the stems emerge above the leaves, bunches of small purple flowers appear. The Plectranthus Ernstii is a really strong plant that can also withstand long periods of drought. This makes this beautiful caudex a green addition to your interior, also suitable if you do not have green fingers.
A very nice plant from South Africa with pleasantly scented leaves. Regular pruning promotes the production of a caudex root, making the plant ideal for use as a bonsai. Blooms easily with small purple flowers. Give a sunny position.
