Information

The Puna bonnieae is a special dwarf cactus. This cactus occurs naturally in the Argentine province of Catamarca. Here the Puna bonnieae grows in harsh conditions at altitudes of up to 2000 meters between rocky soil. The sun is intense here and there is little rain. The Puna bonnieae has adapted well to these conditions. It has a thick taproot in which it can store a lot of water. This way she can survive long periods without rain. This cactus also withdraws almost completely into the earth during a dry period. This way the cactus stays slightly cooler and there is less surface area exposed to the sun. The latter ensures less evaporation of moisture from the cactus.

The Puna bonnieae is a slow grower. This cactus produces small round balls with thin brown spines. New bulbs first have white spines and then they turn red-brown. Ultimately, the Puna bonnieae grows into a small cluster of 12-15 cm in diameter.

When the Puna bonnieae is happy, she can bloom. The flowering of the Puna bonnieae is really beautiful. The small bulbs of this cactus produce larger 5-6 cm pink-white flowers. The cactus often disappears completely under its flowers. The Puna bonnieae can bloom if it is happy with you. Is your plant not blooming after years? Then it can help to let it hibernate in a cold and light place and place it in a sunny spot in the spring and water it the first time with ice-cold water. In nature, the first water they get in the spring is often cold due to meltwater from the mountains.
