Information
Ariocarpus Agavoides is an outsider in the Ariocarpus family when it comes to appearance. Because of its long green leaves it sometimes looks more like an Agave. This cactus has a large underground taproot in which it stores water. This way the cactus has a reserve for drier times. At the same time, this taproot makes the cactus more vulnerable to rot. When watering, make sure that the soil in which the cactus is placed has dried out before you water the cactus again.
The Ariocarpus Agavoides cacti occur naturally in the Tula site in Mexico. Here the cacti grow in sandy soil. If there is no rain for a longer period of time, the plant will completely or largely retreat into the ground. This makes them difficult to find in the wild. At the end of summer and beginning of autumn, very beautiful large purple, pink flowers appear from the head of the plant.
The Ariocarpus Agavoides is a very slow growing cactus. You need a lot of patience before this plant grows to a nice size. Ultimately, the Ariocarpus Agavoides can grow into a cactus of 15 cm wide and 20 cm high. This is of course also a big challenge to grow this cactus and this cactus will not quickly become too big for the home or a cactus collection.
