De Cumulopuntia dactylifera is een aparte cactussoort die je niet vaak tegenkomt. In de natuur groeit deze Cumulopuntia kleine populaties in Argentinië, Bolivia en Chili. Hier groeit deze cactus op berghelingen tussen rotsen.

De Cumulopuntia dactylifera maakt allemaal 3-5 cm grote volle langwerpige bladeren aan. Op deze bladeren groeien diverse areolen met kleine crème gele stekels. De Cumulopuntia dactylifera groeit uit tot een klein cluster van 30cm in diameter en hoogte 25cm.

Naast haar unieke uiterlijk krijgt de Cumulopuntia dactylifera ook nog een prachtige grote gele bloemen. Deze groeien uit de bovenste bladeren van deze cactus en worden 5-7 cm groot.
