Information

The Melocactus curvispinus is a beautiful robust Melocactus. In nature, this cactus occurs in a large area. From Mexico to southern Peru. This makes the Melocactus curvispinus a very variable species.

The Melocactus curvispinus has a beautiful dark green color. The spines are very sharp and reddish brown in color. The new areoles on top of the plant are initially woolly and white in color. Later the wool disappears and turns white-gray. When the Melocactus curvispinus is between 12 and 15 m in diameter, it can start to form its cephalium. This is a woolly circle on top of the cactus that gets bigger every year. The cephalium of the Melocactus curvispinus has a white color.

If the Melocactus curvispinus is happy, it can bloom in the summer. She usually does this on warm days with lots of sun. Her pink flowers then grow from the cephalium. When these are fertilized, dark red seed berries grow from them.
