Information

The Pachypodium bispinosum is a special succulent plant that you do not often encounter. In nature, this Pachypodium occurs in a large area in the Southern and Western Cape provinces of South Africa. Here this Pachypodium grows on dry rocky plains with lots of sun.

The Pachypodium bispinosum has a tuberous caudex. The Pachypodium bispinosum stores large amounts of water here, so that it can withstand long periods of drought. Multiple thin spiny stems grow from the top of the caudex. Elongated thin leaves grow between the spines. When the plant goes dormant with us in the winter, these leaves fall off. In the spring, when the Pachypodium bispinosum starts growing again, these leaves will return automatically.

The Pachypodium bispinosum is one of the most abundantly flowering Pachypodium species. Its flowers often appear in large numbers in spring and summer. They grow from the sides of the top portion of the stems. The flowers of the Pachypodium bispinosum have a calyx shape with wide petals. They are light pink in color with a purple-pink calyx.
