Information

The Pleiospilos Nelii is the green brother of the Pleiospilos Nelii Rubra. Adult specimens of this green variant of the Pleiospilos Nelii grow a lot larger than the purple variant. In nature we find the Pleiospilos Nelii in South Africa. There this succulent grows in the small Karoo Desert on the border of the Eastern and Western Cape to the southern parts of the large Karoo Desert.

In addition to the beautiful appearance of this succulent, the flowers are also very popular. If this Pleiospilos Nelii has a great time with you, it will reward you with beautiful large orange flowers at the end of autumn/winter. The flowers appear from a flower bud that grows between the top two leaves. The flower usually opens in the afternoon and when the sun sets, the flower closes again. The nice thing about these flowers is that they get bigger as the Pleiospilos gets bigger and older.

The leaves of the Pleiospilos Nelii are very similar to those of a Lithops. The new leaves appear between the two older leaves that burst open. This growth habit has given this Pleiospilos the nickname “cracked rock”. Despite the same growth habit, Lithops succulents and Pleiospilos succulents are different species that also occur in the same growing places in nature.

The Pleiospilos Nelii does not easily produce multiple plants. Old specimens only grow several new plants. However, it is not recommended to take cuttings. When this Pleiospilos has multiple heads, it will bloom more easily.

The Pleiospilos Nelii is an easy plant that does not require much care. In addition, this Pleiospilos is also resistant to temperatures down to -5 °C. For this, the soil in which the Pleiospilos Nelii is located must be completely dry.
