Information

The Tephrocactus Alexanderi is a beautiful cactus species that occurs naturally in the Argentine provinces of La Rioja and Salta. Here these cactus grow in an inhospitable area where few other plants can grow.

The Tephrocactus Alexanderi produces green-gray spherical leaves that grow on top of each other. It is not a fast growing cactus. Usually only one new bulb grows on top of an old bulb in a year. The Tephrocactus Alexanderi has sharp, thick gray spines. These grow diagonally downwards.

The Tephrocactus Alexanderi grows flowers here in the spring. These are very beautiful and are pure white to pinkish white in color. The flowers can reach a diameter of 6 cm. These cacti are very difficult to get into bloom. They often need a cold wintering and it helps to water them with ice-cold water on a nice day in February.

When this cactus overwinters in completely dry soil, the Tephrocactus Alexanderi can tolerate temperatures down to -10 °C for a short time.
