Information

The Tephrocactus Geometricus is a beautiful and highly sought after Tephrocactus species. This is mainly due to the symmetry and beautiful round shaped plant parts. In nature, the Tephrocactus Geometricus occurs in Argentina and near the border area with Bolivia.

In the area, the Tephrocactus Geometricus grows on mountain slopes at an altitude of 2200 to 2900 meters. The areas where the Tephrocactus Geometricus grows are not easily accessible due to the altitude. It can also freeze well at this altitude. This makes the Tephrocactus Geometricus resistant to temperatures of -10 degrees. The soil in which the Tephrocactus Geometricus is grown must be completely dried out.

New bulbs grow from the head of an existing bulb of the Tephrocactus Geometricus in the summer. Initially when they grow, these are red-purple in color. Later when they have grown, they get the characteristic gray-blue color.

The flowers of the Tephrocactus Geometricus appear at the end of spring. These are really beautiful. They can grow up to 8 cm and are white to light pink in color.

The Tephrocactus Geometricus does not have many spines. Some dark downward growing spines are visible on the cactus. Probably, because the Tephrocactus Geometricus grows high in the mountains, the spines have never been needed to protect the cactus. For someone who likes a cactus with few spines, the Tephrocactus Geometricus is ideal.
