The Cumulopuntia rossiana var. fuauxiana is a beautiful small cactus species that occurs in nature around the Bolivian city of Potosi. Here this Cumulopuntia grows high in the mountains on dry, hot plains.

The Cumulopuntia rossiana var. fuauxiana has a dark green color and produces small round leaves of 1-2 cm in size. Several tubercles are present on the leaves, with one or a few thick light brown spines growing mainly from the top ones. On top of an existing leaf, the Cumulopuntia rossiana var. fuauxiana often her new leaves. This cactus forms small turf.

The Cumulopuntia rossiana var. fuauxiana is not an easy bloomer. It can help by allowing it to hibernate cold and watering it in early spring on sunny days. But when this cactus blooms, large bright yellow flowers often appear on the upper leaves.

When this cactus overwinters in completely dry soil, the Cumulopuntia rossiana var. fuauxiana can tolerate temperatures down to -7 °C for a short time
