The Epiphyllum Chrysocardium is the big brother of the Epiphyllum Angular. Its saw blades are even bigger. The Epiphyllum Chrysocardium is a special species that can produce very large leaves. Due to its large leaves, this cactus has been nicknamed the fern cactus. The leaves of the Epiphyllum Chrysocardium are green in color. The new growth of the leaves is sometimes yellow-orange in color and is not immediately saw-shaped. This comes later when the leaf is growing. The leaves can grow up to 1m long in large plants.

In nature, the Epiphyllum Chrysocardium occurs in subtropical forests in Mexico. This means that this fern cactus requires a little more water than a normal cactus and can be left in wet soil for a little longer.

Not only the leaves of the Epiphyllum Chrysocardium are beautiful. The flowers that appear in the summer also. These are large, up to 12 cm and cream white in color. They give off a slightly sweet scent. The flowers of this fern cactus remain open for one day.
