The Espostoa Lanata is a woolly columnar cactus. In nature, the Espostoa Lanata grows in southern Ecuador and northern Peru. Here the Espostoa Lanata grows on flat slopes of the Andes mountains. In nature, the Espostoa Lanata grows into large columns of up to 7 meters high. The hairs of the Espostoa Lanata protect the cactus against the cold temperatures that are reached in the mountains at night. In addition, they also give the Espostoa Lanata a soft appearance.

When the Espostoa Lanata is 1 meter high, it can start blooming. The 5.5 cm large purple-white flowers appear from the head of the cactus. The Espostoa Lanata usually blooms in early summer. When the flowers of the Espostoa Lanata are pollinated, 2.5 cm large purple-red fruits are produced. The fruits of the Espostoa Lanata are very juicy, sweet and edible.
