The Gymnocalycium gibbosum subs. borthii is a robust and special cactus that you do not often encounter. In nature this cactus occurs in the Argentinean place Quines. Here it grows on mountain slopes in a dry area.

The Gymnocalycium gibbosum subs. Borthii has a grey-green colour and thick sturdy dark brown spines. This cactus is a slow grower and reaches a diameter of 10 cm after many years.

The Gymnocalycium gibbosum subs. Borthii is an easy bloomer. She usually does this in spring and summer. Her flower buds appear on top of the cactus. These grow into beautiful large white flowers.

When the Gymnocalycium gibbosum subs. Borthii hibernates completely dry, it can tolerate temperatures down to -12 degrees for a short period.
