Selaginella lepidophylla, the magical Rose of Jericho

We've added something special to our collection: the Selaginella lepidophylla, also known as the Rose of Jericho. This plant is a perfect fit for our range because, like our cacti and succulents, it can easily withstand long periods of drought. But where our prickly friends simply remain standing, this plant opts for a dramatic transformation: when dry, it curls into a compact, brown ball—and as soon as it gets watered, it unfolds into a vibrant, fresh green whorl. A small natural wonder you can experience again and again.

The name false or imitation rose of Jericho serves to distinguish it from the “true” rose of Jericho (Anastatica hierochuntica), which has similar properties, but is a different plant species.

Place the "rose" in a bowl of water and after a while, the ball will unroll! Leave it in the water for a maximum of one week, then let it dry and roll it up again for another adventure. Store it in a cool, dry place between uses. It can work its magic about 10 times a year.
