The Agave filifera subs. schidigera f. compacta is a beautiful compact dwarf agave species. The variant does not occur in nature. It originated from the breeding of plants in a nursery.

The Agave filifera subs. schidigera f. compacta, like the regular Agave filifera, has dark green leaves with white edges. With this variant, the leaves continue to shorten and become more. Eventually the Agave filifera subs grows. schidigera f. compacta grows into a compact rosette of 20-25 cm in diameter with up to 100 to 150 leaves.

Like the Agave filifera subs. schidigera f. compacta is fully grown, it will flower once at the end of its life. Then a long flower stem grows from the heart of the agave. It can grow up to 3 meters high and produces many yellow-green to dark purple flowers.

When this Agave overwinters in completely dry soil, the Agave filifera subs. schidigera f. compacta can tolerate temperatures down to -17 °C
