Information

The Astrophytum capricorne var. aureum is a unique variety of the well-known goat's horn cactus, native to the arid regions of Coahuila, Mexico. This cactus thrives in extremely dry conditions, where rainfall is scarce and temperature differences between day and night are large.

The plant has a spherical to short cylindrical body that can reach a height of 35 to 40 cm over the years. The epidermis is green to blue-green and sometimes develops a purple tinge. Unlike the standard Astrophytum capricorne, this variety lacks the white flaking on the epidermis, giving it a smoother and brighter appearance.

The spines are a striking golden yellow when young, fading to gray over time. They are long, thin, flexible, and grow in all directions, making the cactus appear almost wrapped in dry grass. This unique spine structure protects the plant from sun and temperature fluctuations in its natural habitat.

During the summer, the Astrophytum capricorne var. aureum produces beautiful yellow flowers with a contrasting red center. The flowers appear during the day, creating a striking splash of color above the dense web of spines.
