Information

The Coryphantha maiz-tablasensis is a beautiful and unusual cactus species. You don't see it every day. In the wild, this cactus grows in five locations in the Mexican state of San Luis Potosi. Here, it thrives on dry plains, slopes, and hills.

The Coryphantha maiz-tablasensis starts out as a solitary plant. Later, as it grows larger, it begins to form clusters of plants. New side shoots then grow from the sides between its tubercles. This cactus has a dark green color and prominent tubercles. Small white tufts of wool grow between the tubercles. Four sturdy spines emerge from the tips of the tubercles. These spines form a plus shape.

The Coryphantha maiz-tablasensis blooms in spring. Beautiful white to yellowish-white flowers emerge from between the upper spikes.

When the Coryphantha maiz-tablasensis overwinters completely dry, it can withstand temperatures down to -4 degrees.
