The Gymnocalycium ochoterenae is a beautiful robust cactus that occurs naturally in Argentina. Here this cactus grows in dry and rocky areas.

The Gymnocalycium ochoterenae has a dark green color with light brown thick spines that protect the cactus. This cactus is a slow growing species. Ultimately, this cactus grows to a diameter of 10 cm. It is often a cooperatively growing plant. A single cactus of this species will produce a single side shoot when it is older.

The Gymnocalycium ochoterenae is an easy-flowering cactus. This cactus usually does this for us at the end of spring and in summer. Several white flowers with a red heart often appear from the head of the cactus.

When this cactus overwinters in completely dry soil, the Gymnocalycium ochoterenae can tolerate temperatures down to -5 °C.
