Information

The Haworthia truncata is a beautiful succulent plant species. Unfortunately, it is not often cultivated and it grows slowly. This makes the supply limited. In nature, this Haworthia grows mainly in the small Karoo desert in South Africa. Here it grows on dry plains, often in the shade of other plants. This protects it from the bright sun.

The leaves of the Haworthia truncata are different from the average Haworthia. They do not grow in a rosette shape but in a curved line. They also grow partly under the ground. When the Haworthia truncata has its resting season, the leaves retreat further into the ground. This allows less water to evaporate and it can better withstand long periods of drought. The leaves have a lighter color on top. This allows sunlight to enter the leaves. This is necessary for the photosynthesis of the plants.

The Haworthia truncata is a slow grower. Over time, this plant will form a wavy pattern with upright leaves. The flowering period of this Haworthia is in the fall. A long, thin flower stalk with many green-white bell-shaped flowers appears between the middle leaves. The ends of the petals are often curled in this Haworthia species.

When kept dry during autumn and winter, Haworthia truncata can withstand short periods of light night frost down to -7 degrees.
