Information

The Lithops helmutii is a special Lithops species that you do not often encounter. The Lithops helmutii occurs naturally in a small area near the village of Steinkopf in Namaqualandin, South Africa. Here the Lithops helmutii grows in rocky gravel plains. The Lithops helmutii has two green-gray leaves with a dark gray pattern on top. The leaves of this Lithops species grow more upwards than other Lithops species.

If the Lithops helmutii is happy with you, it will bloom in the fall. Bright yellow flowers then appear between the leaves and remain open for several days.

General information Lithops living stones

Lithops species bloom in autumn with white or yellow flowers that appear from the stones. Once a year the stones change their leaves. The outer part comes loose and a new plant grows from the middle. The new living stones eventually become larger than the previous ones. So don't be alarmed if the stone suddenly splits open and a new stone comes out. There they grow in sandy soil and are difficult to find. This is because the Lithops species largely withdraw into the sand during dry periods, leaving only the top of the two leaves visible.
