Information

The Mammillaria lenta is a rare and unique cactus that grows wild in Coahuila, Mexico, near the town of Viesca. Here, it grows in the cracks of calcareous rocks, at an altitude of 900 to 1800 meters, in dry semi-desert regions.

Mammillaria lenta grows very slowly and forms flat, spherical cushions almost completely covered with fine, white spines. This gives the plant a soft, woolly appearance reminiscent of a bird's nest. As the plant matures, more shoots emerge from the base, forming compact clumps.

Mammillaria lenta blooms in the spring in our country. The flowers are remarkably large for a Mammillaria and appear in a ring around the plant. They are pure white with a subtle pink to purple stripe down the center of the petals. The green stigma creates a beautiful contrast with the pale flowers.

With a completely dry wintering, this cactus can withstand temperatures down to -5 degrees.
