Information

The Orbea hirsuta is a beautiful carrion flower species with very large flowers. The Orbea hirsuta occurs naturally in the southwest of the Cape Province in South Africa. Here it grows on plains between rocks and forms large clusters.

The Orbea hirsuta produces beautiful coarse stems that have a fresh green color. The sunlight gives the stems of the Orbea a red-pink glow. The stems of the Orbea hirsuta feel soft and fluffy. This is because many transparent small hairs grow out of it. The Orbea hirsuta regularly branches from the sides of existing stems. This gives you beautiful full clusters with these Orbea hirsuta plants.

The Orbea hirsuta is an easy bloomer. If she is happy with you, she will bloom at the end of summer and autumn. The flowers are very large and impressive. They have a large star shape, five petals and can grow up to 15 cm tall. Many purple pink hairs grow between the petals. This overall picture gives the flower of the Orbea hirsuta its impressive appearance. The flowers have the color and smell of rotting meat. In this way they attract blowflies and beetles for pollination.
