Information

The Piaranthus globosus is a special plant that you do not often encounter. This Piaranthus occurs in nature for the Little Karoo desert in South Africa. Here it grows between rocks on arid plains, often in the shelter of other low vegetation.

The Piaranthus globosus produces green stems. These are wide at the bottom and become narrower at the top. The top of the stems can get a red glow from the sunlight. New stems often grow in large numbers from the lower stems in the spring. This way you get a nice cluster with these plants after a while.

The flowering period of the Piaranthus globosus is often at the end of the summer. The flowers grow from the side of its stems, are creamy yellow in color and have the shape of a starfish. The flowers are pollinated in nature by carrion flies. These are attracted by the disgusting smell that the flowers produce.
