The Schlumbergera is a beautiful Christmas cactus that grows naturally in Brazil. Here, it grows as an epiphyte on other trees and plants. This Christmas cactus is found in a small mountainous area in the Brazilian coastal regions near São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

These Schlumbergeras don't originate in Brazil. They were bred for flower color. This allowed them to select and further develop the most beautiful hybrids. Their flowering period is usually from October to April, often blooming multiple times during this period. The flower buds appear in large numbers atop the leaves. Because these Schlumbergera cactuses often bloom at Christmas or Easter, they are also called Christmas cactus or Easter cactus.
