Information
Information
The Tamarindus indica, also known as Tamarind plant is a beautiful plant with a tropical appearance. In nature, this plant originally occurs in East Africa. Later, it was also spread by humans over large parts of Asia, where it thrives very well.
The Tamarind plant is known for its beautiful stems with many graceful fresh green leaves. In nature, this plant can grow to an impressive size. In the home, this fortunately happens less quickly. You can determine how big the plant becomes yourself. If you simply let the plant grow, it can grow up to 2 meters high. If you think that is too big, you can cut the branches to the desired height. In this way, the tamarind grows more in width, like a bonsai.
Outside your Tamarind plant will also do well. Note that you should only do this in the warm months. When the temperature drops below 10°C you should bring her back inside.
Besides its beautiful appearance, Tamarindus indica is also known for its fruits. For example, tamarind paste is made from this or syrup which is in soft drinks or sauces such as Worcestershire sauce.
In some cases, the leaves of the Tamarind plant turn yellow. If these are old leaves, they will fall off because they are simply replaced by new ones at the top of the plant. Are these not old leaves? Then yellow leaves can indicate too much or too little water, or a lack of nutrients. First check the soil moisture; if the soil feels too wet, give less water. If the plant has not been fed for a long time, adding some plant food can also help.
Additional care tips:
Location
Place your Tamarind in a sunny spot in your home. This plant loves direct sunlight, so a spot near a window is ideal.
Watering
The Tamarind likes moist soil, but be careful not to overwater the plant. Feel the top layer of soil regularly; when it feels dry, it is time to water.
Humidity
As a tropical plant, the Tamarind appreciates a slightly higher humidity. In winter, you can spray the leaves occasionally to prevent them from drying out.
Power supply
During the growing season, from spring to autumn, feed once a month.
