The Turbinicarpus saueri ssp. nelissae is a beautiful cactus species that you don't often encounter. The Turbinicarpus saueri ssp. nelissae grows naturally in a large area in Mexico. Here this cactus grows in dry areas between larger stones.

The Turbinicarpus saueri ssp. nelissae has a beautiful gray-green color and has many small white spines growing sideways. The central thorn grows curved upwards and turns black towards the end. The Turbinicarpus saueri ssp. nelissae eventually grows to 10 cm high and 8 cm wide. Like the other Turbinicarpus species, Turbinicarpus saueri ssp. nelissae has a large taproot in which this cactus can store a lot of water. This cactus does this to get through long periods of drought.

The Turbinicarpus saueri ssp. nelissae is not only very beautiful itself, but so are its flowers. This cactus is an easy bloomer and if she likes it with you, she will do this several times in the spring and summer. Its 3 cm large, light pink flowers grow from the head of the cactus. The flowers have a dark pink line in the middle.
